Building has begun!

We had our pre-construction meeting this morning. Jesse at Fieldstone was quite informative and we learned a lot more about the building process. We also found out that the concrete outside the backdoor won’t be a tiny square 3X3 slab. They make it an upgrade if you want more concrete, but since we upgraded from the sliding glass door to the french style doors, the concrete will go all the way across the door frame. Not a huge amount more, but will look nicer none the less.

We also found out that they do the cable tensioning in the slab. I think it was my brother that told us that this was one of the best ways to do a concrete slab.

Below are some photos of where the house will be located. The yard will be fairly deep for this type of neighborhood, but will be really wide. The side of the house will have a lot of room between it and the street as well. We’re really happy with the size of both the front and the back yards. We get to pick 2 places for them to put trees. I’d really like one in the front yard and one on the side of the house. Then we can put 2 or so in the back yard on our own.

Looking from the front, this was taken from the front left side of the property.
There is 12 feet between the houses.
Standing looking at the back of the house, this photo was taken from the right back corner.
This photo shows the depth of the yard at the deepest point.
I took this photo from the same spot as the last one,
but I’m looking towards the street on the other side of the house to give an idea of the width of the property.
This photo shows the size of the yard on the side of the house that faces the street. The wood
fence will come out from the back corner of the house to make the yard wider. There will be about 20 feet or so from the
edge of the fence to the curb of the street.
This photo was taken from the right front corner of the property facing the left back corner.
Here, I’m standing on the side of the road on the curb. This one is taken from the right back corner pointing towards the left front corner.
This photo was taken from across the street, straight on to the right edge. This one is also across the street showing the positioning of the house on the lot.

How exciting! Did the house closing go ok?

Closing went really well! It was less than a month after we got the contract on the house. Amazingly, it was sooner than the first date they gave us. Usually, closing is later rather than sooner.
